aThematics is the blog of Ari Kardasis, designer, calculator, cook. I am currently working with the Computation Group at MIT on the idea of non-linear design and the structure of space. I’m trained as an architect and a mathematician and I’m trying to sort out some of the issues that arise when we start using technology to do design.
I received an MArch from Princeton SoA where I participated expanding the computational profile of the school and completed a thesis focusing on the nature of information vis-a-vis architecture. While there, I spent time working with Front, a facade consultancy, Aranda/Lasch, a New York based architectural firm focusing on computational explorations in form.
My background is in mathematics. I received a BS in pure math from Brown where I did my undergraduate thesis on a particular iterative functions and ways of computing their behavior.
